Biography:  Began his duty free career in Shannon Duty Free, Ireland. Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free in an era of massive expansion and change. Has led the organization to phenomenal success, growing from an operation of 100 personnel in 1983, to a current workforce of 3,700. Of the original 100 staff, 57 remain in active service. In December 2008, Dubai Duty Free marked its 25th anniversary and on the anniversary day itself (December 20th) the operation reported record daily sales of US$20 million – the equivalent of the full year sales in 1984 – its first full year of business. 2008 sales reached US$1.1 billion, which represented a 23% increase over the previous year. The operation recorded 20 million sales transactions in 2008, which is a daily average of just under 60,000. As part of its 25th Anniversary celebrations, Dubai Duty Free produced a commemorative book, ‘Fly Buy Dubai’ which chronicles the growth of the duty free industry in Ireland from 1947 and the growth of Dubai and the duty free operation as a leading destination and world class airport retailer. A commemorative Song and Film were also produced entitled, ‘Fly Buy Dubai’. In 2008, Colm oversaw the major expansion of Dubai Duty Free which, with the opening of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, doubled in size to a total of 15,000 square meters. In line with this expansion, Dubai Duty Free opened a purpose-built Head Office (6,000 square meters) and a semi-automated Distribution Center which covers an area of 27,000 square meters and will meet the needs of the operation’s 10 year plan.
