Biography:  Adami was a Managing Director in South African Breweries (1994- 2003, Johannesburg). Assuming leadership during the year of South Africa’s first democratically elected government, he led the transformation of SAB as a company capable of competing in a South African market open to global competition for the first time in decades. During Adami's tenure, SAB’s share of absolute alcohol grew 400 bps and EBIT grew from R1b to R3b with EBIT margins improving 750 bps. In this assignment, he not only led SAB’s development into one of the most admired companies of the new South Africa, but also led significant modernization efforts and effectively reset SAB’s cost structures at substantially lowered levels. In 2000, Adami assumed the additional role of Chairman. He was President and CEO, Miller Brewing Company (2003-2006, Milwaukee) Shortly after SABMiller purchased Miller from Philip Morris for $5 billion, Adami was installed with the mandate to turn around the U.S. brewer, which had been in decline for 15 years. After resetting the unit’s cost structure by lowering costs by $230 million, he moved quickly to repair long-strained relations with Miller’s independent distributors, restore the flagship Miller Lite to a solid growth trajectory, reshape the brand portfolio and install a significantly stronger management team. Adami was President and CEO of SABMiller Americas (2006-2007). He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of SABMiller Americas in 2006, responsible for the strategic oversight of Miller Brewing and SABMiller’s South and Central American business units with revenues in excess of $11b. SABMiller had acquired the Bavaria group for $7.8 billion in 2005, and Adami’s priority was to ensure optimal integration of that business with SABMiller’s other Latin American operations and the Group. He retired from SABMiller November 30, 2007, to return home to South Africa to be with his children, Kelly and Simon, who had recently lost their mother to cancer.
